Meet Kirsten
Your Democratic Candidate for IN Senate District 21
Public Servant | Social Worker | Lifelong Indiana Resident
Kirsten Root was raised in a working-class family in LaPorte and Rochester, where hard work, responsibility, and taking care of your neighbors were part of everyday life. She worked full-time through college to make ends meet and became the first person in her family to earn a master’s degree in Social Work.
Her career has been spent with families in some of their hardest moments, helping people navigate systems that are often too slow, too complicated, or too disconnected from real life. Through her work with families, public safety, healthcare, and community programs, Kirsten has seen the same truth again and again: its cheaper to prevent a crisis than to clean one up.
Kirsten is running for State Senate because Hoosiers are paying in, but too often, government is not paying out where it matters most. Families deserve strong public schools, affordable healthcare, safe communities, and leaders who treat taxpayer dollars with respect.
Her campaign is rooted in listening, showing up, and doing the work to make government cost less, work better, and put working families first.
Rooted in What Works.
Rooted in What Works.
Hoosiers work hard and do their part. We take care of our families, follow the rules, and shop up for our neighbors because we know that's what builds strong communities. Families are paying more in taxes, utility bills, healthcare costs, childcare, and groceries while the government is cutting costs, closing essential programs, or pushing the costs onto local communities. Schools are forced back to referendum, roads go unrepaired, emergency services are stretched thin, hospitals close, and property tax bills climb.
Our government is meant to be responsible, accountable, and working for the people. Kirsten believes the government has a duty to respect the people who pay for it. That means spending public money where it works, providing care before a crisis, and protecting schools, services, jobs, land, and traditions that hold our communities together.
Kirsten Root believes public service is a duty. She will show up, listen, tell the truth, and work with anyone serious about solving problems. She will treat people with respect, whether they agree with her or not. District 21 deserves a senator who is steady, serious, prepared, and dependable. Those who believe the people paying the bills deserve a government that works for everyone, provides care before crisis, and stability for working families.
Care Before Crisis
The most expensive way to run the government is to wait until something breaks to fix it. Kirsten has spent her career as a social worker with families, children, survivors, first responders, schools, and local systems after problems were allowed to become emergencies. Care before crisis means keeping healthcare close to home, supporting first responders, strengthening mental health and addiction services, addressing domestic violence and child safety, and making sure people can get help before everything falls apart.
Stability for Working Families
Hoosiers work hard and deserve to afford a normal life. That means good wages, affordable healthcare, childcare families can afford, strong public schools, fair utility bills, property tax relief that doesn’t gut local services, and support for small businesses and local jobs that keep communities strong. Stability also means protecting traditions and institutions that hold our communities together, like churches, farms, union halls, libraries, hospitals, and neighbors who show up for each other.
Government That Works for Everyone
Hoosiers are keeping up their end of the bargain by paying taxes and showing up, the government needs to keep up its end of the bargain. Kirsten believes tax dollars should be spent where they actually work. On safe roads, strong schools, reliable emergency services, access to healthcare, clean water, and local services. A government that works for everyone means less waste, more accountability, honest budgets, local control, and decisions made with the people who have to live with the results.
